[ᴠᴇʀsᴇ] ᴛʜᴇ ᴏɴᴇ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴇᴠᴇʀʏᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴇᴠᴇʀ;;

IN A NUTSHELL:

The "world" is divided in Five Spheres:

The Material Sphere, where all the "things that are of earthly design" exist. Here the Circle rules over the Supernatural and manages them to keep things secret. Significant races of the Material Sphere are:

- Vampires (Separated in the 13 Families) [personal profile] vampyre is the former Thesis of the Vampire.
- Weres (separated on Werewolves and The Wild)
- Mages (Separated by School)
- Dragons (Separated by politics, I don't even)
- Fae (Separated by Court)
- The Knowing, aka Humans That Know
- The Beasts ("Monsters" of legend)

The Spiritual Sphere, where all the "creatures of spiritual design" exist, the Reanimated (a diverse group of zombies that don't really fit anywhere else) and Death (and its Reapers) mainly dwell. A spirit representative sits at the Circle, and a Reaper acts as an Overseer.

The Supernal Sphere, where the "creatures of divine design" exist. All the deities, demons and beings related to the diverse divine practices are grouped here. Also called the Minor Gods (although never to their faces), here are all the beings that were once venerated, or remain with cults on the Material Sphere.

The Abstract Sphere, where the "creatures of abstract design" exist. The Abstracts are the most notable members of this Sphere, each an embodiment of "the things that can't be materialized", but other beings exists here, such as The Tarot, embodiment of the Major Arcana that regularly manifest on the Material Plane for their own purposes.

- [personal profile] ordo is the current Abstract of Order on the Material Sphere.
- [personal profile] fatua is the current Fool on the Material Sphere.

The Fifth Sphere is considered to be a "theoretical place where the Unified One works its design". It's the accepted One True God of the Supernatural community, although it's seen as "The God that is also every other God", meaning that any version of a deity is ultimately talking about the Unified One. By following the "nobody is wrong, everyone is right to some degree" rule the community remains united and (mostly) without religious conflicts.

Evolution happened, then a lot of shitty accidents. With enough time, humans were out, the next step on evolution was in.

Oh, and there's Mariah too.

Congrats, your universe is hardly important because there are trillions upon trillions of those, give it or take an infinity or two. No big deal.

The Ministry of Multiverse Management (MMM and they totally did it on purpose) is composed by the deities that rule over their respective universe. See, once upon a time they were All Together, but the Gods are feisty and possessive and greedy, so that didn't go too well for the Big Universe they shared. So after a few millenia of debate (and the biggest Name Poll never recorded in history) the MMM was formed and the Big Universe was taken apart, thus making the Multiverse! It wasn't as exciting or complicated as it sounds, though.

But it was slightly complicated, though, because even the omnipotent beings that rule everything ever, forever (or do they?) have to follow The Rules, even if they don't like them. Who made The Rules and why do they follow them, they don't know, it's just part of the Things That Are, so Shut Up and Get To It.

So, The Rules were many and The Rules were varied, but some were more important than others; the different universes had to retain some semblance between each other, they couldn't affect events directly, they couldn't transplant things from their universe to another (or receive transplants) and they couldn't, under any circumstances, do anything to another god's universe.

There was also the matter of The Prophesy. What prophesy? They didn't know, either, but The Rules indicated that there should be a prophesy linked to the separation of the Big Universe as a way to...well, something. Some gods thought it would eventually bring all the universes together, others that it would further divide them, some that The Prophesy would destroy the Multiverse...and even themselves. But they didn't, couldn't know, as The Prophesy was to grow and develop alongside the Multiverse, until it was ripe and became whole. So they basically hooked it to the creation of the Multiverse like one would hook a keychain to...a key, I guess.

Bad metaphor.

The Names

Vampires typically have two names: their "Human name" and their "Family name", this being whatever their Maker decided upon the Turning and their "type" working as their surname. While in the Vampire Society, it's expected of vampires to go with their Family name at all times, and many don't know the Human names of others.

Position Names

Certain positions and/or jobs within Vampire Society are so important and/or carry so much power that their occupants receive a new name, which works both as a title and as the vampire's actual name for as long as they keep the position, which commonly lasts until they Die. These names are accompanied by a numeral depicting how many vampires have held the position so far. The surname remains. Some names to remember in Vampire Society are:

Thesis -- The Vampire Ruler (Currently Thesis XVII Aurea after Thesis XVIII Daywalker abdicated, making it the first time the "new" Ruler is a number lower, and the first time the "next" Ruler will be two numbers higher).

Mother -- The Swarmspeaker of the Swarm (Currently Mother Swarm; it has always been the same one, which is hella creepy)

Ella -- The HBIC in charge of the Allurers (Currently Ella X Allure)

Naming Conventions

Those that have been granted Position Names usually default to these, although close friends/family will continue to use their Family names, be it in private or publicly to demonstrate their bond.

The Thesis Situation (official name pending) is an odd one, as she didn't only abdicate, but also self-exiled herself from Vampire Society. Nowadays the vampires refer to her by three different names; that of Thesis XVIII Daywalker, Rena Daywalker (her Family name) and those that find her outside of Vampire Society, forced to follow the ways of the world, are urged by her to simply call her Lorena Cross.

They still mix them all the time though.
